Carl Douglas "Doug" Kendrick, 85, husband of Ersellee "Leigh" Moran-Kendrick. Mr Kendrick, a native of Memphis, born August 3, 1928 to Ollie and Irene (Halbert) Kendrick, Retired Office Manager from Whitten-Sawtille Printing Company after 25 years, died Thursday October 24, 2013 at home, after a short illness. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30p.m. with graveside services to follow at 2p.m. on Tuesday October 29, 2013 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Germantown Parkway Chapel (Formerly Memory Hill Gardens) 3700 N. Germantown Parkway. The service will be conducted by Bro. Randy Bennett. Mr. Kendrick was a geneologist, and after retirement, a volunteer for several commuinity services, He grew up in the Binghampton Neighberhood and attended Merton Avenue Baptist Church (where he gave his heart to Jesus at age 12). He was also a member of Colonial Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Richland Baptist Church. Mr. Kendrick served in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1946 to 1950, then served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves for 2 years. He leaves his wife of 37 years; sister-in-law, Louise Kendrick of Brighton, TN; a step-son James "Chris" Columbus; step-son-in-law Robert "Bob" Vick both of Memphis, TN; step grandson Larry G. Stone, Jr. (Amber), and their two sons of Bartlett, TN; a cousin Harry Edward Smith, III. of Memphis, TN; and several nieces and nephews; Dough and Leigh also have an adopted family, Jack E. Young (Nancy Keel) and their children, Sarah Young-Horn (Israel) their 4 children all of Bartlett, TN; Stephen Young (Carrie Horine) of Houston, Texas. Mr. Kendrick was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Nannie Jane Kendrick (age 3) her twin sister Annie Jeanne Derryberry (2008) of Pottscamp, MS; two brothers James Harrell Kendrick (2001) and Joel Wayne Kendrick (2013), his step-daughter, Virginia Leigh "Ginger" Vick (2009). He graduated from Memphis Tech High School in 1946 and was a member of the Tennessee Geneological Society, and helped organize the Fairbrook Ave. Neighborhood Watch Group. He served as a volunteer on East Memphis Community Council for LifeBlood and with his wife, led the LifeBlood "Guardian Angel" program at Colonial Baptist Church. He was a 6 gallon plus donor.
