Sarah Pauline (Ryan) Hess was born on January 16, 1920, in Bridgeport, Texas. She was the daughter of John and Ethel (White) Ryan. Pauline was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth. She received her education Bridgeport, Texas.
Pauline was united in marriage to Kenneth Hess on November 5, 1938, in Norwood, Minnesota. This union was blessed with the birth of three sons and five daughters. After their marriage, Pauline and Kenneth moved to Fairfax. Pauline and Kenneth shared 60 years of marriage before Kenneth passed away on July 10, 1999.
In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother, Pauline held employment as a waitress at 4-19 Café, Prax's Red Owl Grocery Store, ADC Telecom all in Fairfax and Hands Inc. in Winthrop, prior to retirement. Pauline was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairfax.
Pauline was an excellent cook and avid baker known for her famous lemon meringue pies & chocolate chip cookies and looked forward to sharing with friends and neighbors. Pauline lived a good life raising her family of 7, working hard, she also enjoyed playing cards at her apartment building with friends, especially 500 & nickels. Shopping at Herbergers was her favorite enjoyment. Pauline cherished the time with her children and grandchildren. Over the years, she has attended many sports events from her own sibling's right down to the youngest grandchild. Pauline also enjoyed the Fairfax Cardinals baseball team, Vikings and Twins. Her generosity of sharing time, food and friendships was some of her greatest gifts to others. Pauline's life was surrounded by many people in the community, and well known for a kind and caring heart, and wonderful personality who made so people laugh and smile. Pauline's gift of hospitality will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
When she needed assistance with her daily care, Pauline became a resident of the Fairfax Community Home and later Good Samaritan Home in Winthrop on October 23, 2013, and passed away there on Friday, October 25, 2013, at the age of 93 years. Blessed be her memory.

Gary Hess of Alexandria, MN;
Daughters, Barbara Heyer of Hutchinson, MN,
Linda Buboltz and her husband, Leon of Apple Valley, MN,
Lori Swezey and her husband, Robert of Hector, MN, and
Jill Nachreiner of Winthrop, MN;
15 Grandchildren;
24 Great-Grandchildren;
Siblings, Jimmy Ryan and his wife, Dorothy of Clearview, TX, and Shirley Wynn of Fort Worth, TX;
Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pauline was preceded in death by her Parents, John and Ethel Ryan; Husband, Kenneth Hess; Son, Ronnie Hess; Daughter in infancy; Sisters, Margaret Gale, Pearl Meier, Helen Dunn and Dorothy Tremmel; Brothers, Bill Ryan, Robert Ryan, and JB Ryan.
