Elizabeth "Betty" Bergler, age 83, of Winona, Minnesota died Monday, January 23, 2012 at Saint Anne Extended Health Care in Winona.
Elizabeth Delores was born on March 27, 1928 to August and Milda (Ohm) Klavitter in Wyattville, Minnesota. Growing up she attended school in Lewiston and Winona. Following high school graduation she attended Winona Teacher's College where she received her teaching degree.
On June 4, 1949 Betty was married to Harold Bergler at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wilson, Minnesota. This union was blessed with four children: Gary, Karen, Ken and Donah.
Betty was a school teacher and soon after became a tax consultant, and owned and operated her own business. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Winona where she was active in the Women's Circle and Ladies AID. Betty was also active in many other area organizations, including: Winona Senior Center, Winona Widowers Group, Old Settlers, and Winona Park Rec Squares. She was an avid card player and enjoyed traveling. She was able to travel to all 50 states and internationally, including a trip to China in 1982. Betty will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Gary (Pauline) Bergler of Woodbury, MN; Ken (Sue) Bergler of Winona, MN; and Donah Bergler Kalens of Seattle, WA; grandchildren: Michael, Stacy, Andrea, Alexa, and Kevin Bergler; great-grandchildren: Mikayla, Logan, Joshua and Brenden; other extended family and many friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Karen; parents; and sisters: Lucille Glende; Marilyn Mueller; and Arlene Sommers.
Funeral services for Betty will be Friday, January 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Winona with Reverend Paul F. Welke officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home in Winona as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Wilson, Minnesota.
The family requests that memorials in remembrance of Betty be directed to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Winona or an organization of the donor's choice.
