He was born September 5, 1922 in Seneca County to Bert and Maude (Bare) Reis. He married Loretta L. Culver April 29, 1944 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Toledo and she survives in Tiffin.
Also surviving are 4 children, Mrs. Charles (Susan) Sherman, Timothy J (Amor) Reis, Rodney L (Charlyn) Reis and Ms. Rita (Carl Jordan) Reis all of Tiffin; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a brother, Robert (Phyllis) Reis of Tiffin.
Preceding him in death was his parents; 2 brothers, James and Richard; four sisters, Hazel (Kenneth) Smith, Martha (Charles) Reagan, Mary Jane (Donald) Miller and Anna Mae "Boots" (Richard) McCarthy.
John graduated from Eden Local School in Melmore, Ohio in 1939, and Tiffin University. He worked at Goodyear Tire Company in Akron; then elisting in the Army Air Corp as an aviation student. He also worked at General Electric and farmed for 15 years. He retired from Union Carbide after 20 years never missing a days' work. He liked reading, hunting especially squirrel and deer. He also liked watching football and baseball. His greatest pleasure was mowing his lawn.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass.
