Bertha Katherine Philyaw, 82 died Tuesday, Nov 16 2004, in a Marmet health care facility. She was Born July 10 1922, in Wyoming County, she was the daughter of the late Carroll Brooks and Zeta Walker Brooks.
Mrs. Philyaw was a member of Toneda Baptist church where she sang in the choir. She was the owner and operaor of Bertha's Beauty Shop for 40 years. In addition to her parents, her husband, Lonnie Philyaw, preceded her in death
Survivors include two sons, Ted Philyaw and his wife, Saundra of Charleston and Reggie Philyaw and his wife Elizabeth of Beckley, two brothers, Hollis Brooks of Jesse and James Brooks of Pineville, Two sisters Tensie Tracy of Versailles, Ky and Oretha Sowards of Huntington, and four grandchildren Sara Bechtold of Denver Colo., Eric Philyaw of Morgantown, Catlain Philyaw of Beckley and Bethany Philyaw of Beckley.
Service will be 11 am Friday at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. James Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset memorial Park, Beckley WV.
