She was an accomplished artist in her mature age. She also stood up against the Wisconsin Conservation Department (now DNR - Department of Natural Resources) in an 8 year battle, all the way to the Wisconsin Supreme Court as they were trying to take her land away to increase the Kettle Morraine area. She stood up to them and won. The property is still owned by the Martineau family.
