Milford Ellis, 82, of the Buffalo community, died early Wednesday morning, April 6, 1994, following a long illness. Born in Scott County on November 10, 1911, he was the son of the late Granville and Sarah Acres Ellis. He was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church and a retired coal miner. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Selah Laxton Ellis; two sons: James Billy Ellis and Rev. Robert Ellis; 12 brothers and sisters; a daughter-in-law, Charlene Boyatt Ellis; and a son-in-law, Ralph Jeffers. He is survived by one daughter, Nell Jeffers of Troy, Ohio; one sister, Lidie Bell Duncan of Pine Knot, Ky.; seven grandchildren: Gary, Danny, Rick, Benny, Debra, Kim and Karen Sue; five great-grandchildren; nieces: Pauline and Shirley Day; a sister-in-law, Janice Ellis of Memphis. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were conducted Friday at the Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Ellis and Rev. Obis Byrd officiating. Special music was provided by the New River Quartet. Burial was in the Ellis Family Cemetery in the Buffalo community. Pallbearers were Larry Svajda, Gary Jeffers, Jason Jeffers, Jimmie Laxton, Rick Ellis and Robert Hall.
