Ethel Maude Butler Russell Teegarden was born on April 12, 1919 to Robert and Flora (West) Butler and departed this life on October 25, 2013 at the age of 94 years, 6 months, and 13 days. Born in rural Knoxville, she grew up on the farm and attended Bennett School, a one room schoolhouse in Ray County. On January 14, 1939, she married Raymond Russell of Knoxville. To this union one child was born, Linda on October 2, 1943. Ethel worked at the shoe factory in Hamilton for several years, was a nanny for Bobby and Carl Trent Carter and finished her working life at the State School in Higginsville as a cottage supervisor. On April 11, 1956, Raymond was killed in a tractor accident north of Knoxville. Ethel managed the farm and worked at the State School. In May, 1965, she married Everett (Shorty) Teegarden of Knoxville. They moved back to Knoxville after retirement in 1981. Ethel Maude was well known for growing beautiful African Violets and being an avid gardener. She was a master quilter and made many beautiful creations for her loved ones. Her first quilt was completed at age 17, her last quilt finished at age 87. She continued to embroider quilt tops until the age of 90. Her last embroidered quilt top was made for her great granddaughter to be given to her on her Wedding day. She and Everett were active in Bethel Christian Union Church, and enjoyed traveling and would be ready to on a moment's notice for even the shortest of road trips. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchild. Preceding her in death are her parents, twin sisters, Thelma and Zelma and a brother, Estel. husbands, Raymond and Everett and nephew Gene Crumpacker. Surviving are; daughter Linda and husband, Ronald of Cowgill, grandson Ronald Lee, Jr, wife Kathy of Cowgill, and family; Valerie (Glenn) Dawson of Mounds, Oklahoma, Travis (Jamie) McClard, Ty, Lexie, Kinsey and Lainey McClard of Lawson, grandson Raymond and wife Cindy McElwee of rural Polo, and granddaughter Rebecca and husband Mike and great granddaughter Megan Hodges of St. Joseph. She also leaves behind nieces Brenda (Gary) Austin, Bonnie (Don) Hickson, Janet (Jack) Tippits, Jo Ellen Butler, Eva Franklin, and Nancy Russell; nephews Ron Crumpacker, Jack Butler, Mike Knutter, and Joe (Shirley) Russell, her family at Shirkey's, friends and neighbors. She professed her faith in Jesus as her Lord and Savior and served Him faithfully. She taught Sunday school. Bible School and belonged to the Ladies Aid Society, She baked hundreds of pies for the annual pie auction that helped build the Christian Union Camp Inspiration Hills in Polo. If you ever had the privilege of tasting one of these pies, you were blessed. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Christmas Store at Shirkey's Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be Sunday, October 27, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Knoxville, MO Cemetery.
