She was born in Stratton, Ne. to Ulysses S.and Lulu (Conner)Burks. She attended and graduated from Stratton High School. She went to Kearney State College where she took normal training, she then returned to the area and taught rural school. She taught elementary school for 32 years in Hayes Center.

She married Leon and they made their home on a farm between Hayes Center and Palisade. She then moved to McCook and lived at Highland Park.

She was a Pink Lady at the Community Hospital, a member of the United Methodist Church, Methodist Women, Retired Teachers, Jolly Jane's Exctension Club and held many offices in the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leon, four brothers, Paul, Hon Burk and two in infancy.
