Judge Charles G. Wintersmith was regarded as the most scholarly member of the Elizabethtown bar. He attended Centre College and graduated from Miami (Ohio) University. He began practice of law in Elizabethtown in 1845. He served at one time as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Masons in Kentucky. His first wife was Miss Emily Cotton; his second was Miss Malvina Gorrin of Glasgow.
