U.S. Congressman. He attended Concord College, Georgetown College, was member of the Democratic State central committee, Sheriff of Owen County, (1892-96) and engaged in the tobacco business. In 1900, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-sixth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Evan E. Settle, serving until 1901. After leaving Congress, he resumed his former business activities until his death at age 76.
