James H. McKinney
Funeral services for James Henry McKinney, 78, of Odd,
will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Melton Mortuary Chapel
with the Rev. Samuel Meadows in charge. Burial will follow in
Sunset Memorial Park.
McKinney died at his home at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday after
a long illness. He was born at Odd, July 15 1888, a son of the
late Alfred P. and Polly McKinney and had been a life-long
resident of Raleigh County.
He served as a sheriff's deputy under Isaiah Kidd from 1924
to 1928 and had been active in farming in Raleigh County.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ellen Meadows McKinney
of Odd; three sons, Buford of Elkton, Md., Ray of Forest Hill
and Amos of Odd; one daughter, Miss Avis McKinney of Odd;
nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one brother,
Jerdon McKinney of Rhodell. A son, Shadrach, preceded him in
death July 29,1960.
The body is at Melton Mortuary where friends may call after
4 p.m.. today.
Pallbearers will be Calvin Logan, Harry Wallace, John Garretson,
Daley Walker, Lindell Walker and Clarence Payne.
