One of the high points of his career came in Game 6 of the 1993 World Series when describing Joe Carter's home run, he bellowed the words, "Touch 'em all Joe! You'll never hit a bigger home run in your life!"In 2005 he was nominated for the Ford C. Frick Award. On June 12, 2004, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and immediately had surgery. The surgery was successful, but the cancer returned in September of 2005. He again went for treatment at the Mount Sinai Hospital and the Toronto Western Hospital, both in Toronto, but he passed away in Oldsmar, Florida, on October 9, 2005, at the age of 66.
