Cecilia Ann 'Celia' Hubbell (nee KING) was born in Brooklyn, New York in December of 1836 to Benjamin King (1799-1865) of Suffield, CT and his wife, Mary Alice Southworth (1809-1872) of Stratford, CT.

Cecilia King married Rev. Nathan Hubbell on January 2, 1854. A Methodist Episcopal minister, his later obituary in The Christian Advocate described Cecilia as "...being remarkably adapted to her position, and her labors, especially in visiting the people and in gathering and teaching the children in the Sunday school, having seldom been surpassed. God gave them eight children, but early recalled two of these. Two daughters, married, now live with their families in the city of New Haven, while four stalwart sons, grown to manhood, reside in the State of New York." (15 June 1905.)
