Mr. Shelton served in the US Air Corps during World War II, and worked with the NC Department of Agriculture as a chemist. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Memorial service will be 11:00 AM Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. William Hawkins and Rev. John McKinnon officiating. The family will receive friends at Pollock-Best Funeral Home Friday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie Stone Shelton; four children, Ann Shelton Knowles and husband Fred of New Bern, Harry Alexander Shelton and wife Kathy of Cary, Mark Wynne Shelton and wife Laurie of Wilmington and John Southall Shelton and wife Chase of Wilmington; one sister, Louise Shelton Adcock of Fuquay-Varina; and six grandchildren, Adam Alexander Shelton, Blake Mitchell Shelton, Harry Turner Shelton, Walker Stone Shelton, Jessica Knowles Stevens and Jason Thomas Knowles.
