GRENOLA - Alfred Dale Arbuckle, 81, of rural Grenola, died March 19, 2000, at his home.

Me morial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grenola United Methodist Church. Jim Sweet and the Rev. Don Foster will officiate. Ferguson-Spease American Legion Post 388 will conduct military services. Cremation has taken place.

A memorial has been established with the Greenfield Township Board. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Arbuckle was born Dec. 7, 1918, on a farm near Grenola, to Martha Marie (Liebau) and John Mason Arbuckle.

He graduated from Grenola High School in 1937 and attended Emporia State College for a short time. In 1938 he moved to Fresno, Calif., where he attended Fresno City College. He was a member of the National Guard before enlisting in the United States Army in 1942. He was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco and later at Fort Sheridan in Illinois.

On Dec. 4, 1943, he married Kathryn Eileen Whelehon in Highland Park, Ill. In 1944 they moved to Detroit where they lived until moving to Jackson, Tenn. They moved to Arkansas City in 1949 and to their farm northwest of Grenola in 1953. He was a self-employed farmer and rancher for most of his life.

Ar buckle was a member of the advisory board of the Valley Hope Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ferguson-Spease American Legion Post 388 of Moline and the Grenola United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Arbuckle, and a son, Jon Mark Arbuckle, both of Grenola; a daughter, Deborah Stonehocker, Hendersonville, Tenn.; a stepsister, Helen Murphy, Fresno, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
