Frank L. Whitehead was called home by our Lord on Sept. 1, 2009. He was 96 years old. He passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. Born on Aug. 22, 1913 in Brownwood, Texas, he and his family later moved to San Antonio in 1922. In his professional life he was a beloved school teacher and later principal of several local middle schools. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie Fairbanks Whitehead in 2000. They had two children, Frank Gordon Whitehead and Carole Whitehead Meyer. He later married Elizabeth Griggs, with whom he shared the remainder of his life. He remained active in his church and in various civic organizations including Habitat for Humanity and the S.A. Gem and Mineral Society. He was a joy in the lives of all who knew him from the beginning to the end. He has numerous grandchildren, including Christine L. Boudreaux, Peyton M.Lowrance, Sarah Vo, Rachel Gold, Paul Whitehead, Alexandra Gibson Whitehead, Michael Mendoza, Denise Soule and Rubin Duran. Great grandchildren include Benjamin Boudreaux, Cate Boudreaux, Kelley Lowrance, Riley Golds, Andrew Vo, Natalie, Isabella and Abril Soule. A memorial service is planned for Sat. Sept. 5 2009 at Colonial Hills United Methodist Church, 5247 Vance Jackson Rd, San Antonio Texas at 2:00 pm. Those wishing to make memorial donations are asked to make it to the Colonial Hills UMC or to the charity of their choice.
