She was born on August 17, 1923 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin to Leon and Alma Greenwood (deceased). In June, 1945, she married Dr. John W. Lowe who preceded her in death in 2009.
Kathryn had four children, John W. Lowe III (Gloria); Adrienne O'Neill, both of Tempe; Susan St. George-Wolff (deceased); and Scott Lowe (deceased). She dearly loved her grandchildren John Christopher Lowe (Julie) of Seattle; Sean V. O'Neill (Johanna) of Irvine, CA; and Anthony St. George (Kayla) of Chandler. She also had four great-grand children Lily Kate and Matteo Lowe of Seattle and Isabella O'Neill and Helio Martinez of Irvine, CA. Kate was also close to former son-in-law Joseph St. George of Phoenix. She leaves a brother-in-law Col (retired) Paul Atherton of Florida and sister-in-law Mary Greenwood of Tennessee and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kate attended high school in LaCrosse, WI and college at LaCrosse State Teachers College and then Arizona State University. She taught at Coronado high school in Scottsdale for many years. She also volunteered at the Tempe Public Library and was involved in voter registration.
Kate and John originally came to Arizona when John was stationed at Luke Field during World War II and were married in Phoenix. After John completed his Doctorate degree they returned to make Tempe their home in 1956 where John taught at Arizona State Teachers College (now ASU). Their first home upon return to AZ was in Victory Village on the college campus where Grady Gammage now sits. Kate made many new friends at Sunrise Senior Living of Gilbert and enjoyed her year of residency there.
