Rosella was born in St. Benedict on October 4, 1923 the daughter of John L. and Mary E. Oenbring Schmitz. She grew up on the family farmstead northwest of St. Benedict, she attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from St. Benedict High School in 1941.
On February 7, 1945 Rosella and Wilfred F. Bergman were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Benedict. Rosella was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed her family and raising their thirteen children. The couple publicly celebrated their 25th, 50th and 60th year anniversaries.
Rosella was very talented at crocheting, sewing, quilting and embroidering; she made beautiful baby quilts, tea towels and doilies. She loved gardening and canning its produce to share with her family. She took great pride in her flower gardens, where roses were her favorite flower. She made excellent pies and always made the most delicious frosted sugar cookies.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a past Altar Society officer. She valued the time she was able to pray the Rosary at St. Mary's Grotto.
