Adolf Rothschild, his wife Kathinka, and their three oldest children (Wilhelmina, Augusta, and Reinhardt) sailed from Bremen, Germany on the SS Bremen, arriving in New York City 2 July 1866. The settled briefly in Illinois, where their youngest son, Edward was born in 1873, and finally settled in St. Louis. Though 10 years older, Adolph outlived his wife by just over a year. At the time of his passing, he was survived by 4 children, 17 of his 18 grandchildren, and 1 g-grandchild.

When my mother visited Valhalla several years ago, she realized Adolph and Kathinka didn't have grave markers, and quickly arranged for them to be installed.. The joint headstone was installed August 2000
