GREENSBORO Virginia Mabe Taylor, 94, formerly of Greensboro, died Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the Brian Center in Yanceyville, North Carolina. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, with Rev. Howard James officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from 1 until 2 pm. Mrs. Taylor was born in the Quaker Gap Township in Stokes County to the late James Franklin Mabe and Sarah Jackson Mabe on May 12, 1923. She married Joseph Austin Taylor on December 20, 1939. Mrs. Taylor worked at Cone Mills' Revolution Plant for many years and retired from Oakdale Mills in Jamestown. She was a lifetime member and faithful attendee of Christ Wesleyan Church until her health prevented her from attending. Mrs. Taylor loved working in her flower garden. In Spring and Summer, her yard was a myriad of colors and plantings. She freely shared the fruits of her labors with anyone expressing an interest. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Austin Taylor who passed on March 25, 1977; her sister, Ethel Davis; and her brother, J.D. Mabe. Mrs. Taylor is survived by her children, Diane Dixon (Paul) of Waldorf, Maryland, Bill Taylor of Colorado; Susan Knight (Roger) of Blanch, North Carolina; and Wesley Taylor (Lisa) of White Lake, North Carolina; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and many close friends. The family extends their appreciation to the staff of the Brian Center and Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell for their devoted care for Mrs. Taylor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
