Myrtle "Mutt" Reeves, 94, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at the F.W. Huston Senior Living Center in Winchester, Kansas. She was born on October 9, 1919 in Sparks, Kansas the daughter of Pete and Maggie Bale Carter. In 1931 the Carter family moved to the Horton area. Mutt was a seamstress for the Garment Factory for years before going to work for the Horton Hospital in the housekeeping department. She also helped her husband on the family farm. She was active volunteer with the VFW Auxiliary and the Horton Hospital Auxilary. Mutt loved sewing and cooking for her family. In 1936 she married Virgil F. Reeves in Oregon, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2006. Survivors include three daughters, Jean Higley of Horton, Kansas, Norma Ireland of McClouth, Kansas and Virginia Cosner of Horton, Kansas; three sisters, Betty Heim of Holton, Kansas, Barbara Cirkle of Jacksonville, Texas and Sue Willis of Mesa, Arizona; eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters, Ethel Meerpohl, Sue Bell, Emogene Winterscheidt and Minnie Banning; three brothers, Rusty, Francis and Bill Carter. Graveside service and burial will be at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, December 2, 2013 at the Horton Cemetery.
