Joan owned and operated Rudes Department Store from 1952 to 1966, was a licensed Interior Decorator, and helped her husband with work at the Mead Mortuary. She was a Past President of the Barstow Hospital Auxiliary, but her most enjoyable times were at her home with her family.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Buck. Surviving Joan are her children, Olivia Mead of Barstow and Daryl Mead of Bismarck, ND; grandchildren, Gary Mead and Irma Mead of Henderson, NV; great-grandchildren, Anthony Herrera-Mead, Gary Mead, Jr., and Vanessa Mead of Henderson, NV; sister Mary Carter and her husband, Dave of Burton, OH.
Services for Joan will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013. Visitation will be at 10 a.m., and the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Mead Mortuary. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park, Barstow.
