Country Musician. One of the pioneer recording artists of Country Music. In the mid-1920's he released "The Prisoners Song" and "Wreck of the Old 97", each of which sold millions of copies. His lifetime recording sales are estimated at 70 million copies. At the height of his career, a New York "Times" music critic prophesied that his recordings would be compiled and studied for all of history to give insight to future generations into the folkways of North America during the first decades of the 20th century.
