Roe Andrew "Andy" Fields, age 88, went peacefully to be with the Lord in Macdoel, Calif,, on Dec. 5, 2015, on what would have been his and his late wife Helen's 61st anniversary.

Andy was born in Snyder, Okla., to Roe and Blanche (Ramsey) Fields on Sept. 30, 1927, the oldest of six children. As a youngster, he lived for awhile in Snyder and then in Eagle, Colo. In 1936, he and his family moved to Malin, Ore., where he attended and graduated from Malin High School in 1947.

Shortly after graduation, he served in the Army as a mechanic in the Signal Corps and was sent to Sendi, Japan. He met the love of his life, Helen May Schmidt, at a dance and they married on Dec. 5, 1954. They had two sons.

During his life, he worked hard in the potato fields, gathering potatoes by hand from the field into 100 lbs. sacks and was pretty quick at it. He logged and felled trees for a local mill and, after the birth of their first son, they moved to Macdoel and farmed there for the rest of his life. He loved going to, and never missed, a single sporting event that his sons and grandchildren were involved in, no matter where they were held. Andy loved farming, gardening, welding, being a mechanic, hunting and fishing, but his true joy was his family. He loved telling his old hunting and fishing stories to his kids and grandkids. He was very handy at making and fixing anything he needed from the scrap pile on the farm.

He was a member of the Butte Valley Boosters, PTA, Farm Bureau and was a past Cub Scout leader. He was also a member of the Macdoel Assembly of God Church. His favorite job later in life was to eradicate the ground squirrels from the alfalfa fields on his farm.

A kind, honest, loving and hardworking husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Andy did not tell us how to live. In his quiet way, he lived and let us watch.

He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, all of Macdoel; grandchildren, of San Antonio, Texas, Warrensburg, Mo., Klamath Falls, Ore,, great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law of Sisters, Ore.; sisters of Bend, Ore., and Malin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Schmidt) Fields; parents, Roe and Blanche Fields; sister, Marie Taylor and brother, Kenneth Fields.
