Ray W. Smith, 77, of Olmsted Falls died Tuesday at Elyria Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Columbia Station, he was a retired meat cutter for the Kroger Co.

Prior to working for Kroger, he worked at Barnum's Super-market in Olmsted Falls.

Mr. Smith was a member of Olmsted Falls and the Carlisle Grange No. 1502 in Carlisle Township.

He enjoyed flower gardening and bowling, especially in the Grange Bowling League and for the Ridgeview Seniors.

Survivors include his wife, Alice (nee Schneider); daughters Lucille Thompson of Homerville and Linda Hale of Somerset, Ky.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers Dwight Smith of LaGrange, Robert and Amil Smith, both of Elyria and Willard Smith of Spencer; and sisters Dorothy Kelley of Grafton, Frances Brooks of Elyria, Virginia Smith of North Ridgeville, Myrtle Schuehrer of Drummond Island, Mich., Faith Kidney of New London, Betty Schneider of Valley City and Grace Hammon of Medina.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (nee Knapp), in 1971 and brothers Roy and Leon Smith.

Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Baker Funeral Home, 298 Front St., Berea. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Olmsted Community Church, 7853 MAin St., Olmsted Falls.

Interment will be at Columbia Cemetery in Columbia Station.

Memorials may be made to the church.
