Bessie L. "Betty" Wham was born on May 28, 1929 in Stratford, Oklahoma and passed away on April 11, 2021 in Yukon, Oklahoma and is under the care of Bill Merritt Funeral Service. Visitation will be held on April 16, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Bill Merritt Funeral Service, 6201 Northwest 39th Expressway, Bethany, OK. Bessie L. "Betty" Wham passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021 at her daughter's home in Yukon, OK at the age of 91. Betty was born May 28, 1929 at her grandmother's home in Stratford, OK to James Albert and Laura Leigh Cottrell Brashears. Betty lived in Oklahoma City for 79 years, moving here at the age of 12. She worked as a secretary for Harter Concrete for 25 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a longtime member of Forrest Hill Christian Church, and then a charter member of First Love Christian Church. She was active for many in Eastern Star and past Worthy Matron in 1982. Betty loved to crochet, making potholders and several afghans for family members and hosting Bible Study in her home. She and her husband, Neil enjoyed camping in their motorhome with their grandchildren and trips with fellow Shriners. Attending "Pickin and Grinnin" in Guthrie where Neil would sing and play was a highlight. One of her favorite hobbies was watching birds, especially hummingbirds.
She was a dedicated Mother, Granny and Great Granny who loved and always put family first.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Mildred Tinnin and Ann Martin, her twin brother, Jess Brashears, her husband, J. Neil Wham, and his daughter, Jerri McCarthey and grandson, Chris McCarthey. She is survived by her daughter, Elynn (Thomas) Wagner and husband, Dennis, sons, Rodney Thomas and Ron Thomas. Grandchildren, Lacey Spangler and husband, Brad, Dena Hill and husband, Derrick, Phillip McCarthey and wife, Christy and Heather Johnston. Great grandchildren, Olivia Hill, Katlyn Spangler, Isabelle Spangler, Gavin Hill, Jake Hill, Mac Spangler, Lily Spangler, Jaxson Spangler, Christian McCarthey, Dalton Coffman and Dylan Coffman as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services
will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 17, 2021 in the Bill Merritt Memorial Chapel with burial at Fairlawn Cemetery in Tuttle, OK.
