DIED
LUCAS - At the home of her son William in Monmouth, Kansas, on Wednesday, October 3rd, 1883, Nancy K. Lucas, aged 70 years and 7 days.

The remains were taken to Muscaline, Iowa, her old home, for burial, where they will be interred to-day at 10 o'clock.
Two sons, Geo. W.H., and Saml. Bl, and niece (actually granddaughter), Miss Evva, accompanied the remains.
:
:
She was born in Scioto county, Ohio, in September, 1813, her parents' name being Hitchcock, and from youth has been a consistent member of the Congregationalist church. On Oct. 17th, 1833 she and Samuel Lucas were married in Pendleton, Indiana.
In October, 1838 they moved to Muscatine county, Iowa, being among the very first settlers there.
At that time, what is now the city of Muscatine with its 15,000 inhabitants, consisted of but 2 or 3 small houses.
There they lived for over 40 years, her husband dying at that place August 5th, 1878, being 71 years, 6 months and 25 days of age.
There were born to them eight children, viz.:
Geo. W. H., Jesse H., Sarah F., Joseph, Hanah E., Endora, and Samuel B.,all of whom grew to manhood and womanhood but one, Hannah, who died August 8th, 1846, aged but 10 months and 4 days.
Of the seven remaining, five are now living, and in Cherokee and Monmouth, though Jesse is at present engaged in the stock business in Texas. Sarah F. Kemp died in Cherokee Nov 17th, 1877, aged 36 years and 1 day, leaving a husband and daughter.
Eudora died in Muscatine county, Iowa, in August, 1881, aged 34 years.
Immediately after the death of Eudora, her last daughter, grandma, as she was called by all, came to Kansas and had ever since made her home with her sons in Cherokee and Monmouth, having sold the old home place in Iowa.
