Puppeteer and Writer. He was born in St. Paul (Minnesota) and died in San Francisco (California). He was for many years the head writer for the Muppet Show. In 1961, he and the British-born Frank Oz, both members of the Oaklands Park-based travelling Vagabond Puppet Theater, met Jim Henson and his wife Jane, and Juhl was invited to join the duo as a puppeteer. He was the head writer during the first six seasons of Sesame Street (1969-75), and won two Emmy Awards. When Henson launched Fraggle Rock (1983-87), an American-British-Canadian series, Juhl was head writer and creative producer. His favorite muppet was the Great Gonzo. After completing the film Muppets from Space (1999), he went into semi-retirement at his home in Caspar, northern California.
