Cpl. Timothy M. Shea of Sonoma, California told friends that he wanted to be an Army Ranger. Some had doubts that the popular guy known for his wild personality and love of cars, could make the cut. He had found direction in his life with the military after graduating from high school in 2001 unsure of what to do next. Tim loved to discover the world, from running with the bulls in Pamplona to a trip to England that was almost derailed when his fascination with a British history museum caused him to nearly miss his departure train. He earned both the Bronze Star with Valor and the Purple Heart. Born at home, Tim graduated from St. Vincent de Paul High School in Petaluma, CA in 2001, where he played football for four years as a Starting Lineman. He was elected Homecoming King his senior year. In his all too brief life, Tim won the friendship of almost everyone he met. He loved the camaraderie of cooperative effort, whether on the athletic field, at a party, or in the environs of the United States Army. Tim had a belief in the innate goodness of everyone and a joy of living that was evidenced by his intense love of History, Learning, and Adventure. As a "Renaissance Man," he could speak on topics ranging from the Peloponnesian War to the finer points of marinating a steak to perfection. His football jersey, number 57, was retired September 7, in a ceremony at Saint Vincent de Paul High School. He is survived by his parents, William M. and Mary Shea, his sister, Sara; his maternal grandparents Magnus and Maria Studer. He was 22.
