Anson B McFarland was born in 1861 at Bristol, Lincoln, Maine, the son of John McFarland & Sarah (Sally) Ann Robbins. In 1880 Anson was employed as a sailor. He was a mate & sailed to Nova Scotia for frozen Mackerel and rock for fertilizer factories around the Boothbay region. He was shipwrecked 7 times. After leaving the sea he took a wagon & horse south to the Chickering Piano Factory in or near Boston. In 1890 he was employed as a helper, most likely at the piano factory. His brother Reuben also worked at the same factory and later returned to Boothbay.

Anson married 25 Dec 1910 to Gladys M Carroll in Boston,Suffolk, Mass. She was born in Bar Harbor,Maine, daughter of Anson E Carroll & Nellie Sawyer. In 1910 Anson worked as a wagon driver for the factory. The marriage shortly ended & Anson returned to Boothbay in about 1912 with his son Reuben Robbins McFarland. He & son lived with his brother Reuben & Anson worked at cutting wood and raising hens, chickens & pigs, also working as a caretaker for an estate in Edgecomb. Later he took horse & carriage down to the harbor to sell his vegetables. By 1930 he & son lived alone on the River Road in Boothbay. He was employed then as a house carpenter. Anson passed away in the summer of 1941.
