Mary Lee Knox was born to the proud parents of Lee & Ora Knox on May 3, 1926 in Hope, Arkansas. The family moved to California, but because Mary wanted to graduate from her Alma Mater, Veager High School, she returned to Hope, Arkansas for her senior year. She met a young man at a dance in Oakland, California named Elijah Irving, who later asked her parents for permission to marry her. They were married June 4, 1946 and returned to California. Mr. & Mrs. Elijah Irving remained that way almost 50 years until his passing. This union was blessed with six children. three sons; Robert, Charles and Ronald and three daughters; Victoria, Terry and Marchelle.

Mary always remained busy, working with the Santa Fe PTA, serving as President for a time, she worked as a Crossing Guard for Oakland Public Schools, in sales for the March of Dimes, a polling worker on Election Day, helped establish the 56th Street Block Club and served as it's President, was a top Avon Sales Representative for over 20 years. You would find her at Delmonte Cannery every summer and when a permanent position in the tool room became available she accepted it and worked there until retiring in 1988. Mary did all of this while raising 6 children.

When Elijah & Mary returned to California,she united with the church that her husband was attending, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Clark, where she remained a faithful servant her entire life. Her many accomplishment included, working with the Youth Department, serving as President of the Youth Usher Board, Chairperson for the Hospitality Committee and President of the Women's Missionary Union. Mary Irving was also responsible for restarting the Weekly Food Give - Away and the Christmas Basket Give Away Program at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

The Lord God called His child home on September 27, 2013 and Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Elijah Irving, son, Robert Irving, daughter, Terry Allen, son, Charles Irving, brother, Leroy Knox, sister in law, Mary Knox, sister, Martha Franklin, Murleen Fraizer, brother in law, James Fraizers, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory, Victoria Nelson, Ronald Irving, Marchelle Irving, Jimmie Know (wife Mary),Charles Knox (wife Leatrice), Joseph Know (wife Thurleen), two grandsons; Charles Jr. and Thomas, six granddaughters; Athena, Christina, Chanel, Denesha, Daniela and Dayonna, eight great grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and Friends.

Mary was deeply loved by her family and friends and she will be greatly missed by those she loved and those who love her.
