Mr. Colwell was born at Wyoming, Stark County, Ill., June 24, 1840, and grew up in the neighborhood in which he was born.
He enlisted in Co. K 47th Illinois volunteer infantry, Sept 17th, 1861, and served a little over three years and was discharged Oct. 11th, 1864, and engaged in farming after the war.
Mr. Colwell was married to Mrs. Emma Bean, seventeen years ago, and has lived in Exeter ever since, and was engaged in the livery business for twelve years here and was well known over the country. For several years Mr. Colwell has been in declining health, and his last illness lasted only two days.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the M.E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.F. Kemper.
