Mazie was born to Frank and Ellen Hayden and grew up on O'Neil NE. She was a teacher in Edgemont South Dakota when she married M.B. Rhodes on April 11, 1897.
She came with her husband from Kansas City in the winter of 1900 and they located in Basin , where she lived until 1962, except for four years with her husband when he managed the US Land Office in Lander, 1910 to 1914.
She was twice elected treasurer of Big Horn County, 1918 and 1920.
Mazie was a member of the Rebekahs in South Dakota in 1896 and joined the Order of Eastern Star in Missouri in 1897. She, with seven others,, planned and organized the O.E.S chapter in Basin in 1904 and she later served as Worthy Matron. Mazie was the last surviving charter member.
In 1962 she moved with her husband to Thermopois, she was in failing health at that time.
Mazie was survived by her husband, a daughter Mrs W.F, Petrausch of Thermopolis, three grandsons; William , John and James Petrausch, two great grandchildren and nieces and nephews in South Dakota, Oklahoma and New Hampshire.
