Mrs. Cecilia Stone Campbell, 77, of Lake Blackshear, formerly of Fitzgerald, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele.

Mrs. Campbell was born in Ben Hill County on January 26, 1936, to T.H.and Ruth Coffey Stone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Andrew Campbell.

A graduate of Fitzgerald High School, she went on to serve as president of the Fitzgerald Ben Hill County Chamber of Commerce and was the first female member of the Rotary Club, of which she was also a former president. She was a past president of the Fitzgerald Ben Hill Arts Council and served as chairman of many area festivals. She was also former president of the Retail Merchant Association and assisted in the restoration of the old Fitzgerald High School. She was also active with Ben Hill Irwin Technical School, serving at both local and state levels.

Mrs. Campbell was a booster of Fitzgerald and Ben Hill County and was sometimes referred to as "Mrs. Fitzgerald." She was a former buyer for many retail department stores in Fitzgerald and Valdosta, managed Stone Motor Company and completed her career as a fund raiser for the Ben Hill County School System. She was a member of Arbor Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and had taught Sunday School. While living in Cordele, she attended Warwick United Methodist Boat Church. Music was important to Mrs. Campbell, who was also a member of the Jubalheirs.

Survivors include: sister, Glenda (James G.) McKenzie of Cynthiana, KY,; and nephews, Marshall (Kerri) McKenzie of De Beque, Colo., and Scott (Lara) McKenzie of Columbus, Ohio.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Paulk Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge and the Rev. Rick Hamilton Officiating.

Pallbearers were William Lee Turner, Donald Miles, Tim Hall, James Bass, Ray Cromer, and Brinson Brock.

Music was provided by pianist, Sheila Carter, and singers, Johnny Burch, Laurie White Tim Parker, Todd Horne and Carrie Pirtle.

Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery. Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
