Longtime Quincy businessman Edward "Ed" Charles Brownlee, affectionately known to the community as "Grandpa Ed," passed from this life peacefully, following a long and valiant battle with cancer, early Friday morning Oct. 30, 2009, at his residence in Quincy. His loving wife and son were at his side.

Born July 18, 1942, in Berkeley, to the late Edgar and Mildred (Halvorsen) Brownlee, Ed spent his early years raised in the coastal community of Aptos on the family's apple ranch.
As a young teen he and his family relocated to Santa Rosa where Ed graduated from Santa Rosa High School as a member of the class of 1960. While attending high school Ed was an active member of the Future Farmers of America and lettered in football.
Shortly following graduation Ed and Linda Becker eloped to Couer d'Alene, Idaho. To this union of close to 50 years two sons and a daughter were born.
Ed and his family moved to Quincy in October 1970 where Ed owned and operated Ed's Alignment and Brake (currently DeMartile Automotive) for more than 30 years. Not one to sit idle, Ed worked for Caltrans and Wilburn Construction Co., as well as others, following the sale of the business.
Edward enjoyed flying, skiing and as an avid snowmobiler was a member of the first Plumas County Snowmobile Search and Rescue Team. As a longtime member of the Quincy Rotary Club, Ed served as the club's president and was awarded the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship as well as serving the community's youth as a member of the Little League's board of directors where he is also a past president.
Ed's passion in life was that of his family, especially his precious grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors with them when ever possible.
Edward is survived by his wife Linda; sons Robert and Chuck Brownlee, both of Quincy; daughter Carolyn and her husband Wayne Fregien of San Andreas; sisters Carleen and husband Robert Hogan of Yreka, Claire and husband David Kennedy and Debbie Brownlee all of Albuquerque, N.M.; his precious grandsons Justin and Bradley Pierson, Mark Young, Charles Brownlee and three greatly loved great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Ed's life will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, 10:30 a.m., in the Tulsa Scott Pavilion at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds. Burial will follow in the Old Quincy Cemetery.
A time of visitation and sharing is scheduled from 5–8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at the Fehrman Mortuary Chapel-Quincy. An opportunity to sign the memorial guest register and share condolences with the family is available online at fehrmanmortuary.com.
The family suggests any remembrances in Ed's memory be made to the Quincy Chapter of the American Cancer Society, c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory, P.O. Box 53, Quincy, CA 95971.
