She was born the daughter of Samuel Cecil Pegram and Ada Mayo Pegram.
Mrs. Griffin graduated from Washington High School and married John F. Griffin in August of 1939. She was active most of her married life in the music ministry of Dortches Baptist Church, serving as a choir director, junior choir director, and singing for years in the adult choir. She was the director of the Women's Missionary Union for her local church as well as for the North Roanoke Baptist Association. For a number of years she served as a Camp Director at Chowan College for the Youth Missionary Organization, both boys and girls. She taught a women's Sunday School class at her church for 55 years. She was active with the USDA Home Demonstration Club over a long period of time. In 1958, as an NC delegate she attended the National Home Demonstration Club Convention in Wichita, Kansas and repeated the next year in Portland, Oregon. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years, John F. Griffin, Jr.; two sons, John F. Griffin, III and wife, Kay of Canoga Park, CA, and Samuel Cecil Griffin and wife, Carolyn of Chapel Hill, NC; daughter, Judith G. Killough and husband, Ray Bernard of Indian Trail, NC.
