Joseph Cole, II was the son of Joseph Cole, I and Freelove Mason. He married Remember Cole 26 November 1769. Remember was the daughter of Israel Cole and Remember Burgess. Remember died and Joseph later married Margaret Leeper in 1777.
Joseph enlisted in the Virginia Militia. He was a Captain and fought in the battle of Kings Mountain.
His tombstone was recorded by Redmond Cole circa 1926. Since that time, his tombstone has been destroyed or missing.
A gravemarker was placed in the Cemetery at St. Clair's Bottom Primitive Baptist Cemetery by Dennis Stewart 27 September 2005. Dennis ordered this military marker at no cost from the US government. A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, 27 September 2005 at 4:00 PM. Betty O'Brien, of SC, a member of Nathanael Greene Chapter DAR, researched the biography and read it at the service. Betty also lead the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the USA. Dennis Stewart of TN, a member of Col. Benjamin Cleveland Chapter SAR, presented the colors, unveiled the marker, layed the wreath, and retired the colors. The invocation and prayer were done by Rev. Zeb Carson Williams, Jr., of VA. All participants sang The Star Spangled Banner. Betty is a 5th great-grand niece of Joseph Cole. Dennis and Zeb are 5th great-grandnephews of Joseph Cole. Last year, a memorial Service was also held for Hugh Cole, a brother of Joseph Cole in this cemetery.
