Laurie was a Hollis School Principal and Teacher between 1951-1957. He was also a Principal of Walpole NH (1957-1961) and served as Assistant Principal in the High School in Lexington Massachusetts between 1961 and 1975. He was a Real Estate Agent in Hollis after his retirement and served on the Hollis School Board. He was a member of the Hollis Congregational Church and had lived at 39 Pine Hill Road in Hollis from about 1950. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy in WWII. He was also a Graduate of Colby College in Waterville Maine and received an MA from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

Laurie was married to Elizabeth Coles for 47 years. She died in 2008 and is also buried at the same location.
