William Russell Lippencot, 72 years, well known hotel man, died suddenly Wednesday morning, October 28, 1959, in his home in the George Washington Hotel, Washington. Mr. Lippencott was advisory manager of the hotel. He had been in failing health two years.

Mr. Lippencott was a son of William Henry Lippencott and Lucy Gregory Lippencott and was born October 15, 1887, at the village of Lippencott, Washington Township, Greene County.

He graduated from Waynesburg College in 1910, and had been a football star. He then played professional football for a Moundsville, W. Va. team.

Later Mr. Lippencott became a clerk in the Blair Hotel, Waynesburg, and then worked in the office of the Philadelphia Gas Company.

On July 5, 1914, he was united in marriage with Miss Laura Patton, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Patton of Waynesburg.

He became receiver for the College Hall dormitory of the Universiy of Illinois at Valparaiso.

In 1917 Mr. Lippencott came to Washington and operated the William Henry Hotel for ten years. In 1927 he became the first manager of the Fort Jackson Hotel in Waynesburg. He left Waynesburg to manage the Penn-Albert Hotel in Greensburg, and in 1930, took over the Woodruff Hotel in Watertown, N. Y. He returned to Washington in 1937 and managed the George Washington until about a year ago. Mr. Lippencott remained on in an advisory capacity.

He was a charter member of Phi Sigma fraternity at Waynesburg College. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Washington and was also a member of the official board. Mr. Lippencott was a member of Waynesburg Lodge 154, F. & A. M., Pittsburgh Consistory, Syria Shrine, Washington-Greene County Shrine Caravan; charter member of Washington Rotary Club, and the National Hotel Association.

Surviving are his wife, and a twin sister, Mrs. Frances Day, both of Washington.
