Prominent Pioneer Farmer Near Old Fort Was Stricken and Died

Peter Baker, one of the pioneer farmers residing a mile east of Old Fort, died very suddenly at his home Saturday night. He had gone to the barn to do his chores and not returning to the house his wife went to the barn and was startled to find her husband cold in death.

When Mrs. Baker found her husband he was on the barn floor with a pitch fork in his and was no doubt stricken without any warning while at work and expired instantly. Heart disease was the cause of his sudden taking off.

The deceased was about 84 years of age and for more than 25 years had lived on the farm where he died, esteemed and respected by all who knew him. Mr. Baker was well-known and had many friends in Fremont.

He is survived by his widow and three children. The children are: Peter Baker, of Ballville township; Christian Baker, of Colby, and Mrs. Moritz Gessner, of riley township.

The funeral services will be held at the Hoovers Corners church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock and the remains will be in the Hoovers Corners cemetery. (AKA Decker Cemetery.)

ANNA BAKER is listed below as Peter Baker's daughter when she was, in fact, his granddaugther. Peter and Christena (Mathia) Baker had a son, named Peter, and Anna was his daughter.
