Sam Franklin Austin, 78, of Caryville, FL, passed gently into the arms of God on Sun, Apr 24, 2005, at his residence. He was born Feb 18, 1927, to the late Gerald and Mary Jane Austin. Mr. Austin served in the 4th Specialist Construction Battalion of the Navy during WW II. He was a member of the Masonic Lodges in Bonifay and Vernon, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bonifay.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Austin, and 1 sister, Melbra Wright. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Faye Rose Austin of Caryville, FL; 2 sons, Jess Austin of Mesa, AZ, and Phil Steyaert of South Bend, IN; 3 daughters, Sharon (Tyler) Thro of Panama City, FL, Sandee (Buck) Stritz of Caldwell, OH, and Jane (Neal) Lively of Chipley, FL; 2 brothers, A. G. Austin of Vernon, FL, and Reubin Austin of Pensacola, FL; 3 sisters, Vonceil Martin of Vernon, FL, Mandy Sheffield of Vernon, FL, and Amy Lee Tomaio of Pensacola, FL; and 11 grandchildren.
Services will be held on Thu, Apr 28, 2005, at 3 pm at First United Methodist Church of Bonifay with Rev. Jeff Spicer officiating. Interment will follow in the Unity Baptist Church Cemetery in Vernon, Washington, FL. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Wed, Apr 27, 2005, at Peel Funeral Home at 301 E. Evans Ave., in Bonifay, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Covenant Hospice or American Cancer Society.
