She married Joseph Woodburn Gard 20 Aug 1848 in Tippecanoe Co., IN. They had six sons, Eramus M., Henry J., John M., Isaac W., Earnest C., and Hanson G.

Census records indicate Catharine married second Joseph Lavery and was widowed again before 1880.

On Thursday afternoon Mrs. Catherine Gard died at the home of her son Manford on the farm northeast of town. She was 93 years of age, and died of the weakness due to advanced years, without much pain.

funeral was held on Saturday forenoon. Mrs. Gard and Mrs. Chittenden were the oldest residents of this entire community, and their deaths were just two weeks apart.

[Unfortunately, the obituary was unreadable except for the following:]

The funeral services were held on Saturday morning, August 2, at the home of E. M. Gard. Pastors Aikin and Johnson officiated. Two sons, two nephews, and two grandnephews acted as pall bearers.

Interment was in Bethel Cemetery by the side of the husband who died in 1861. There was a large attendance of friends and neighbors.

Census records indicate that Catherine was still married in 1880, but Joseph Lavery was not living in her home in Ringgold, Iowa at that time. Joseph Lavery was living with a sister in Morgan County, Ohio, where he was receiving care for his disability. He was listed as widowed, so it is likely that they never got back together after 1880. He died on 9 January 1893 in Morgan, Ohio.
