"SUMTER - Jordan Perry "J.P." Broughton, 82, widower of Dorothy Louise Redden Broughton, died Monday, October 30, 2006, in Dorn VA Hospital in Columbia.

Born September 13, 1924, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Perry Abraham Broughton and the late Lydia Lila Williams Broughton.

Mr. Broughton was a member of Wise Drive Baptist Church and was a member of the Sumter Lion's Club, American Ex-Prisoners of War Palmetto Chapter, S.C. [WWII POW in Germany]. Combat Veteran's Group, American Legion Post #15, and was a Mason. He was the former co-owner of Sumter Music & Amusement Company.

He was also past President of the S.C. Coin Operator's Association and served on the Board of Directors of the Farm Bureau Association. He was instrumental in the development of the Quality Growers of South Carolina

Surviving are three daughters, Brenda Louise Broughton Villarreal of Columbia, Lila Lee Payne and husband, Al, Lenora Ann Kurzenberger and husband, George, all of Sumter; six grandchildren, Leah Smith, Perry Villarreal, Wade Albert Payne III, Stacy Ard, George Kurzenberger III and Beth Hill, and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William Cameron Broughton.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Wise Drive Baptist Church with the Rev. Dearld Sterling officiating.

Burial will be in Fulton Cemetery in Pinewood with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be Wade Albert Payne III, George Nelson Kurzenberger III, Joseph Perry Villarreal, Caleb Jordan Smith, Mark Harvin Ard and Russell Howard Hill.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sumter Lion's Club and the Palmetto Chapter of the Ex-Prisoners of War.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2334 Wedgefield Road.

Memorials may be made to Wise Drive Baptist Church, 2751 Wise Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 or to a charity of one's choice.
