Jewel Ray Starr, 77, died June 22, 2008, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Rudolph M. Starr and Geneva Black Starr.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at First ARP Church.

Interment is at Gaston Memorial Park

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Ray was born Dec. 26, 1930, and was a graduate of Gastonia High School and Belmont Abbey College. He was a CPA and controller of various enterprises of the late Cary C. Boshamer and owned interests in several corporations. He served as vice president for business affairs for Belmont Abbey College. Ray also was an active member of First ARP Church where he served as youth advisor, teacher, deacon and elder.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Peggy Hayes Starr; son, Larry R. Starr of Belmont; grandson, Jonathan N. Starr of Raleigh; brother-in-law, Howard Langley of Denver, N.C.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carlene S. Langley.

The Revs. Eddie Spencer and Mark Tankersley will be officiating.
