Harvey A. Bates, age 82, of Ava, Ohio, died Thursday morning (1/28/2003) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge, Ohio. He was born 1/27/1921 in Noble County, Ohio, a son of the late Robert E. & Bertha Harper Bates. He was a WWII Naval Veteran having served as a Petty Officer 2nd Class in the European Theater of Operations. He was a longtime mechanic, a retired employee of the former Gould Company Plant at Caldwell, Ohio and a member of Caldwell Post #4721 VFW.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Surviving are his wife Dorothy V. Davis Bates whom he married in 1948 in Greenup, Kentucky; 1 sister Lela Belle Joseph of Zanesville, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
No visitation will be observed. Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday (1/30/2003) at 1:00 PM at Halley's Ridge Cemetery, near Ava, Ohio, with the Rev. Robert Law officiating.
