"Anna, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Rear, of Ft. Wayne, was born June 7, 1871; united in marriage with Hadsel Darby, Feb. 4, 1888, and after a brief illness, died at her home on Center street at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 1888. The deceased came with her husband to this place in June last, and her acquaintances were limited. she was a bright little woman, the idol of her family, and all who knew her mourn their loss. At the age of thirteen she was converted to the Christian religion, and united with the Berry street M. E. church of Fort Wayne, since when she has lived a devoted and earnest Christian life, leaving an example of faith that will serve to bring those who were dear to her, unto the saving knowledge of the Savior, whom she trusted. She was taken with convulsions of Friday evening and was unconscious until death. Every effort known to the best medical skill was resorted to without avail. The funeral services were held in the Disciple church at one o'clock Wednesday p.m., conducted by Elder W. F. Ackman, of the Disciple church, and Rev. H. C. Smith, of the M. E. church, and her remains were placed at rest in the Waterloo cemetery. a beautiful casket and burial robes of pure white and a lovely wreath of choice flowers encircling the word 'Anna' were selected for her burial. Her parents and elder sister, Mrs. Jennie Hatfield, her brothers, James E. and Jesse M., the former accompanied by his wife, and other friends from Ft. Wayne, Dr. A. B. Darby's mother, from Wauseon, Ohio, and other relatives and friends from a distance, attended the obsequies. The afflicted husband and all the members o f the families connected, have the sympathies of many friends here and, although they were cast among strangers, they found that 'one touch of nature made all of kin.'"
