Mr. Burrows was named after Washington Irving (April 3, 1783 – November 28, 1859), the American short story writer.
Mr. Burrows went by the nickname, Irwin.

A native of Randolph County, he was a retired printer and co-owner of Lambert Printing Company in Asheboro.
Mr. Burrows was a Mason, a member of Balfour Lodge 188 and was the oldest living past master of the lodge. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church.
In World War I he served with Company K , Old Hickory Division, in France.
In 1970 he received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts.
He was a Charter member of Dixon Post 45 of the American Legion and a former Kiwanian.

Survived by his wife, Vetta Hendrix Burrows; two daughters, Mrs. Floyd Hill of Falls Church, VA and Mrs. J R Toler of Charlotte; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Six brothers also survive him: Clarence G. Burrows of Bedford, VA; Herman Burrows of High Point; Hal and Wayne Burrows, both of Asheboro; Arthur Burrows of Chesterfield, VA; and Clyde Burrows of Marion, VA.
Three sisters: Mrs. R S Underwood and Mrs. John Brown, both of Greensboro; and Mrs. Kemp McCuston of High Point.

Pugh Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
