Roger E. Owen, age 75, of Fairview, passed away Friday, October 29, 2010, at the Home at AuSable Valley Community in Fairview.
Roger was born on February 21, 1935 in Pontiac, MI to Clarence and Luella (Fear) Owen. He served his country in the US Marine Corps. Roger married Janet L. (Waring) Owen on March 19, 1955 in Hillsdale, MI. The couple lived in Pontiac, then moved to Mio in 1975. Roger worked for Proto-Tube in Luzerne for a time, then later sold Fireview woodstoves and heating wood in Luzerne. He also worked construction for a few years. Roger was a member of the Mio Church of God. He was an avid hunter and fisherman; who was a member of the Stutesville and Cherryland Beagle Club, winning many trophies for his training field trials; and was also a member of Knock-Busters Archery Club in Luzerne, where he helped with 4-H Archery for children.
Roger is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet; his children: Bonnie (David) Odell of Roscommon, MI; Marcia (Jim) Bringard of Clifton, CO; Brenda McClusky of Fairview, MI; Luella (Brian) Ames of Roscommon, MI; Paula (Travis) Handrich of Kalamazoo, MI; and Lisa (Rick) Merhl of Mio, MI; his brother Dale Owen of Pontiac, MI; 15 grandchildren: James, Roger, Kristina, Somer, Richard, Kathy, Archie, Scott, Mark, Darell, Janet, Dillon, Nicole, Travis and Ryan and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters, and 6 brothers.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 1, 2010 from 12 Noon until the time of funeral services at 2 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home in Mio, with Pastors Mike Stadelmayer and Rick McClendon officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
