William Buchanan, 89, formerly of Des Plaines, will be held at 3 p.m. today, at Whittenburg Commons of Luther Village, 1285 Luther Lane. Born Sept. 29, 1913, in Shakle Island, Tenn., he died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002. Interment will be private in Randhill Park Cemetery. Mr. Buchanan was a former mechanical engineer for DuPont Chemical. He was a graduate of Vanderbuilt University and had worked with the defense department during World War II. He was an active member at Luther Village. He was the beloved husband for 62 years of Violet Buchanan (nee Allen); loving father of Richard (Mary) Buchanan, Carol (Steve) Wallace and the late William T. Buchanan Jr.; dear grandfather of Jessica, Laura, Andy and Dan; and brother of Robert N. Jr. (Rachelle) Buchanan and Margaret (the late Thomas) Hickey. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Foundation. Arrangements were made by G.L. Hills Funeral Home, Des Plaines.
